Claim #1: Oil and gas setbacks are 500 feet from schools and 1000 feet from the middle of homes and buildings.

Fact: Current Colorado setbacks mandate oil and gas development take place at least 500 feet from homes and 1,000 feet for schools and multi-occupied buildings.  The setback is measured at the edge of the structure, not in the middle as shown in Fox31’s graphic (below).

Claim #2: Does oil spew or gush from the top of a rig during drilling?

Fact: No. Common oil gushers as seen in movies (i.e. James Dean in Giant)  stopped in 1922 due to technical advances.
